Dhruv Rathee (born 8 October 1994) is an Indian YouTuber, vlogger, and social media activist. He is known for his YouTube videos on social, political, and environmental issues. As of June 2024, he has approximately 28.7 million subscribers across all his channels and a total of 4.86 billion video views.

Education

Early life and education Rathee was born in the Indian state of Haryana to a Hindu Jat family. He received his primary education in Haryana before pursuing higher education in Germany. Rathee received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, followed by a master's degree in renewable energy from the same institution. Rathee is primarily known for his political videos, which mainly consist of fact-checking and explanatory content.

According to The Print, Rathi was one of the first Indian users to use YouTube as a political platform, having started uploading travel videos in 2013, but by late 2013 he began to turn his focus towards political and social topics.

Alongside his serious content, Rathi launched the satirical "fake news" segment, Pee News. Additionally, from 2017 to early 2020, Rathi wrote opinion columns for The Print. Dhruv's coverage of the 2018 BJP-AAP controversy was considered one-sided and half-baked.

In July 2020, Rathi started another YouTube channel called Dhruv Rathi Vlogs, where he shares his international travel vlogs. Apart from his travel vlogs, Rathi hosts several shows, including Deutsche Welle's DW Travel and Netflix India's Decode with Dhruv. He also hosts a podcast called Maha Bharat with Dhruv Rathi on Spotify.

By February 2022, Rathi started a short channel to share 30-second fact videos. The channel provides viewers with a quick and accessible way to connect with the information Rathi presents. In September 2022, he faced controversy when a video he posted about the political crisis in Pakistan was blocked by India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The ministry claimed that the video contained a distorted map of India, showing parts of Kashmir as part of Pakistan or "disputed". In March 2023, he also faced copyright charges from Dabur over his video titled "The Dark-Side of Cold Drinks".

In an order, the Calcutta High Court ordered the social media platform to remove the video. On April 18, 2024, Rathi announced five new YouTube channels that focus on publishing dubbed videos in five Indian regional languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, and Kannada languages. Personal life Rathi is a resident of Germany.

Upcoming Child

In November 2021, Rathi married his longtime girlfriend Julie LBR at the Belvedere Palace in Vienna, Austria. They are expecting their first child by September 2024.
